Week 731AZ - Amelia turns double digits

montage

Give me a hug you turned double digits! And a great hug I got. I had some great conversations with Amelia this week and I’ll record them as they make me happy. I also got in some other stuff I love, which I’ll also record for myself. Lastly I’ll remind myself something a very wise friend told me. You can’t pick when your kids want to hang out with you. The best you can do is be around, so that if the mood strikes them, they do! And here were several examples where I was around, and the mood did strike

Week 721AZ - Friends and Photos

montage

When it comes to happiness, the science is clear - relationships. I’m incredibly blessed to have lots of amazing peple in my life, and when I remember, I snap photos w/’em! Here’s a dump of some of I’ve seen the last few weeks.

Week 720AZ - A few random blessings

montage

A few random blessings and some photos I’ve had over the weeks. Of course, the biggest blessing is having an amazing family - but there’s some fun stuff that happens too.

Week 719AZ - Crusader Kings III - Zach’s favorite game today!

montage

I (Zach) like video games. That’s not a secret or anything, I just figure it’s worth stating. Recently, I’ve discovered a very fun video game, Crusader Kings III. The premise of the game is that you are a medieval ruler or vassal (think count, duke, king, etc.) who tries to dominate the medieval world. You play three separate games in one:

Family Journal 718AZ - Zach’s take on the Yellow Deli

montage

Over the border, there is a place unlike any other. Nestled between urban Vancouver and the rural wastes beyond, there lies a small, unassuming restaurant. This homely establishment is known simply as “The Yellow Deli”. Beyond the Deli’s quaint and rustic veneer, you will find a religious organization many repute as a cult. Formally known as “The Twelve Tribes of Israel”, they have been known to use tactics commonly associated with cults to both gain and retain followers. Becoming a truly devout follower of The Twelve Tribes is no walk in the park, however, as the majority of virtuous members seemingly live in hippy-esque communes that grow their own food and share everything. Interestingly enough, it seems that, politically, at least, The Twelve Tribes are your run-of-the-mill libertarians. Throughout the The Twelve Tribes’ history, there have been many child abuse allegations levied against them. According to the Tribes, children are but tiny adults and are therefore assigned the same responsibilities of their older peers. Adding to the allegations of “cultiness”, many former followers have denounced The Twelve Tribes after they left the communes.

Achievement Unlocked- Yellow Deli

“I ask you a question. When your answer makes no sense, I ask you more questions”. It was a dark and stormy night, and the Canadian border agent was not happy with my answer. 2 minutes earlier Border Guard: “Why are you coming to Canada?” Igor: “To go to the yellow Deli!” Guard: “What, you drove 3 hours for a sandwich?” Igor: “6 hours we’re coming back tonight. But. Yes, it’s run by a Jewish cult!”. … After many questions concerning gun ownership, switchblades, and unsavory characters the guard let us pass. On the way back, having experienced the yellow deli, I was filled with conviction on how great the experience was, and gave the guard the directions to get there.

Week 716AZ - Just Another Week

montage

I’m over the hump on performance reviews. We’re still doing them every morning till Thursday, but the hard stuff is all done and now it’s crossing the t’s, dotting the i’s, and finishing the paperwork. All that is to say this week’s energy was all spent on performance reviews, but next week should be a more interesting week.
